Exploring the world

Reasons

In the 15th century, European countries launched many maritime expeditions. There were different reasons for this.

They needed to find new trade routes to the East. In 1453, the Turks conquered Constantinople, and took over the Byzantine Empire. This interrupted the trede toutes to between Europe and the Far East. Cosequently, Europeans had to search for new routes to Asia, round the African coast or across the Atlantic Ocean.

  • To find new trade routes to the Spice Island.

As all of us know, spices were very important during the age of discovery.
they were very important, also beforethe age of discovery because the
people needed them to preserve food. They also were very important to
taste the food and some of them as medicine too.

The crown of Castile and the kingdom of Portugal, were the most powerful
and important groups in charch of the search for new trade routes. They
needed new trade routes, because in 1454, the Tuks conquered
Constantinaple and collapse the trade rutes wich the europeans all ready
know. To used those trade routes, the european people needed to paid
money. For this reason european people (the crown of Castile and the
portuguese people) started to search new trade routes. They had two options:

  1. To border all the coast of the African continent. Then, went to the north until the Far East.
  2. To circumnavigate all the world crossing the Atlantic Ocean. This Ocean, was very brave and they didn´t know so much about it.

Important precious stones europeans want

European rulers fought many wars. They fought against each other and against the Turkish Empire. These wars were very expensive, so they needed to find lots of gold, silver, and precious stones to pay for them. They believed that Asia was loaded with gold, silver, and precious stones, so they decided to find it and bring it back.

Gold:

For centuries, buying gold has been recognized as one of the best ways to preserve one's wealth and purchasing power. Gold is a unique investment, one that has served mankind well for thousands of years. From the times of ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans to more modern times, man has been fascinated with the beauty and magic of gold, and with its power to change men's lives.

Gold, like other precious metals, is measured in troy weight; when alloyed with other metals, the term carat is used to express the amount of gold present, 24 carats being pure gold. Gold is one of the heaviest minerals, and therefore can be panned easily because the gold sinks to the bottom of the streams.

Silver:

Silver has been used for thousands of years for ornaments and utensils, for trade, and as the basis for many monetary systems. Its value as a precious metal was long considered second only to gold. Silver has been known since ancient times.Mentioned in the book of Genesis, slag heaps found in Asia Minor and on the islands of the Aegean Sea indicate that silver was being separated from led as early as the 4th millennium BC using surface mining.

Recorded use of silver to prevent infection dates to anciet Grece and Rome, it was rediscovered in the Middle Ages, when it was used for several purposes, such as to disinfect water and food during storage, and also for the treatment of burns and wounds as wound dressing. In the 19th century, sailors on long ocean voyages would putsilver coins in barrels of water and wine to keep the liquid pure. Pioneers in America used the same idea as they made their journey from coast to coast.

The first route to the spices

The first route to the spices land was through land and it takes a part of Europe and Asia to get to India but when the Turks conquered Constantinople, the Crown of Castile and the Crown of Portugal started exploring the sea and so getting deeper and deeper through the coast of Africa, first Bartolomeu Diaz surrounded the coast of Africa until he reached the tip of Africa so he returned to Portugal and they sayed that Africa could be surrounded. Some years later, Vasco de Gama organised a new trip to get the spices land , he get it and returned to Portugal with some spices when Vasco de Gama returned, some people started getting there for buying some spices.

The land route was saffer because the territories were known by traders but when the new trade route by sea was created. The land route for trading spices was more quicker because the territories that were through the land route, was more or less the middle part of the sea route so the spices were quicker transported to the mercadeers so they could start selling before the species.

In this map I show that the land route (red line)was short because in this map the sea route(blue line) doesn't appear around the coast of Africa. Also you can see that the spice were bought in almost all the countries of south Asia like:India,Arabia Saudi,Sri lanka,Indonesia and Bangladesh

What is Christianity

Christianity, is a monotheistic religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus as presented in canonical gospels and other New Testament writings. The people who believe in Christianity, are called Chistians.Christianity teaches that Jesus is the Son of God,God having become human and the savior of the humanity. Because of this, Christians commonly refer to Jesus as Christ or Messiah. The three largest groups in the world of Christianity are the Roman Catholic church , the Eastern Orthdox churches, and the various churches of Protestantism .The holy book of the Christianism is called the bible, it is divided into two parts that are the Old Testament that was write before Jesus was born and the New Testament that was write by the twelve apostles after the born of Jesus.

Reasons for espreading Christianity

The reasons for expreading Christianity were that Indigenous people such as native americans (Aztecs and Incas) convert them into Christians and civilizated them. Some missionaries such as Francis Xavier as well as other Jesuits, Augustinians, Franciscans and Dominicans were moving to America for helping to convert Aztecs and Incas. In 1521, through the leadership and preaching of the Portuguese explorer Ferdinad Magellan, the first Catholics were baptized in all the world. They taught the Indians better farming methods, and easier ways of weaving and making pottery. Because some people questioned whether the Indians were truly human and deserved baptism, Pope Paul III in the papal bull Veritas Ipsa or Sublimis Deus confirmed that the Indians were deserving people. The native americans people were legally defined as children, and priests took on a paternalistic role, often enforced with corporal punishment. The Pope Paul III in the year 1537 affirm that native americans are free mans and that they need to convert them he say it with this words:<<Los indios son verdaderos hombres dotados de almas aptos en consecuencia para disponer de sus bienes y personas>>.Other reason was that Jesuscrist sayed that profets or apostles would need to expread Christianism all around the world so the people belief and workship Jesuscrist

Now I put a video of the espreading of christianity in europe and part of asia
